Welcome to DownRight.Life.
We are a family of four—Dan, Cynthia, and our two kids, Harriet and Luca.
Cynthia and Dan met in 2011 while living and working in Amsterdam. Both of us quickly decided the world of corporate jobs wasn’t what we wanted from life, so we moved to Playa del Carmen in Cynthia’s home country of Mexico. In 2014, we relocated again, this time to La Paz in the Baja California peninsula.
By 2017 we were blessed with our first child, Harriet. Soon after her birth, Harriet was diagnosed with Down syndrome. Our perspective on life changed again as we committed ourselves to giving her experiences and opportunities that are so often lacking for people with the condition. Luca followed in March 2020 at the start of the COVID pandemic, and we decided that a return to the Riviera Maya was the best option for everyone.
We now live in the small town of Puerto Morelos and use Cancun airport (the airport with the most destinations served in all of Mexico) as our hub to explore the world.
We have always traveled extensively but now do so with an additional purpose—teaching the world about Down syndrome, providing inspiration to other families in the Down syndrome community, and ensuring our kids have the perspectives and tools they need to succeed in life.
